Buena scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning and the Royals couldn’t recover in the Channel League game.
Jessica Vega of the Royals homered to left field in the top of second. It was her fourth of the year.
Down 5-1 in 7th inning, Kayla Aguilar reached base on a fielder’s choice and scored on Emma Foster’s sixth triple of the season.
“We were able to muster just three hits on the day but our defense played extremely well behind some solid pitching by Kate Guerra,” said coach Jeff Swann.
Kamilah Morales and Tiana Monaghan pulled off an outfield-to-third base double play in the fifth.
The Royals fall to 6-7 in league (12-14-1) overall and play host to Buena (7-6) on Wednesday in the regular-season finale. They need a win to create a tie for fourth place and force a playoff for the league’s fourth automatic playoff spot.
