The Dos Pueblos softball team defeated rival San Marcos for the second straight day, taking a 7-4 victory at the Simi Valley Manlet Tournament on Saturday.
The Chargers lost their tournament opener, 3-2 against Heritage Christian.
DP was led by Jessica Reveles, who went 2 for 3, and Riley Monroe, who had three RBI. Bella Nuno and Kaitlyn Ashby shared pitching duties. Ashby held the Royals scoreless over two innings in her varsity debut.
In the opener, DP ran into a hot Heritage Christian pitcher who struck out 15. The Chargers outhit Heritage Christian, but couldn’t come up with a clutch hit with runners in scoring position.
“We had our opportunities in game one against a very high quality pitcher. One timely hit and we’re in control,” said coach Mike Gerken. “Trisha Lo had some great at-bats today as did Mia and Bella.”
San Marcos fell in its opener to Rio Mesa, 6-2.
The Royals rallied to pull within a run of Rio Mesa, 3-2. Kamilah Morales singled to drive in courtesy runner Cindy Villa and Izabella Velasquez executing a sacrifice bunt to bring home Tiana Monaghan in the fourth inning.
Rio Mesa responded with three runs in the bottom of the fourth.
The Royals scored six runs in the next inning, including a grand slam from Morales, to take an 8-6 lead. But Rio Mesa was unable to complete its at-bat due to a tournament time limit, and the score reverted back to the previous full inning, making it a 6-2 final.
San Marcos couldn’t muster enough hits to overcome a 3-0 deficit after the first inning against DP.
San Marcos leaders on the day were Morales (2 for 5, four RBI, grand slam), Caitlyn Early (3-5, two RBI, double),
Bella Cruz (2-3) and Emma Foster and Gigi Gritt, both 2-5.
