Emma Foster went 3-for-3 with two walks, two stolen bases and four runs scored to lead the San Marcos offense in a 14-4 win over Lompoc Thursday in a game shortened to five innings due to darkness.
Foster also assisted on a 9-3 putout from right field.
Royals pitcher Kate Guerra went the distance, allowing seven hits, striking out six and walking just two.
Tiana Monaghan hit two doubles and had three RBI for San Marcos. Kayla Aguilar and Caitlyn Early collected two hits apiece and Kamilah Morales and Cindy Villa hit a double each.
“The girls played impeccable defense today, backing Kate up with all the routine plays and a stellar one by Emma,” Royals coach Jeff Swann said. “I was especially proud of how we hit the different pitching speeds that Lompoc brought. The team has been working hard on being disciplined at the plate for fast, medium and slow speeds and it paid off today.”
The game served as the home opener for San Marcos, though due to scheduling issues it was played at Dos Pueblos.
The Royals open Channel League play at home on Tuesday, hosting Pacifica with a 3:30 p.m. start.
