Dos Pueblos won its first game while San Marcos split a pair on Thursday at the Best of the West softball tournament, hosted by Righetti High.

Dos Pueblos scored two runs in the fifth to break a 1-1 tie and defeat Bullard High of Fresno in its only game on Thursday.

San Marcos opened the tournament with an 18-4 rout of Pioneer Valley and was later no-hit by Oaks Christian, 5-0. Oaks Christian is the No. 1-ranked team in CIF-SS Division 1 and No. 2 in the state.

Kate Guerra went the distance against Oak Christian, striking out three and allowed just two earned runs on eight hits.

“She did a fantastic job against an excellent-hitting OC team, forcing them to hit pitches at the edges of the strike zone,” said San Marcos coach Jeff Swann. “She had good control and only left a few pitches over the plate.”

Against Pioneer Valley, the Royals rapped out 19 hits. Kamilah Morales went 4-for-4 witih a triple, four RBI and two runs scored to pace the attack. Bella Cruz was 3-4 with three RBI and two runs scored.

Izabella Velasquez, Cassandra Perez, Gracie Verdugo, Gigi Gritt, Caitlyn Early and Emma Foster all collected two hits apiece.

“It was fantastic to see the girls all hitting the ball well today,” said Swann. “We have been inconsistent as a team this season, but every player has contributed offensively the last two games.”

Dos Pueblos 3, Bullard 2

Dos Pueblos pitcher Georgia Wilson came up big in the seventh inning, allowing the Chargers to hold on for the win.

Bullard had runners at third and second and the lead-off batter coming up. Wilson induced a comebacker and DP escaped with the victory.

The Chargers broke a 1-1 tied in the fifth.  Lacy Spear singled and Leila Chisholm singled, Chisholm’s ball was misplayed by the right fielder, allowing Spear to score.

Reveles got her second hit of the day on a bunt, moving Chisholm to third. Reveles then stole second and when the ball got away Chisholm was able to score easily.

“I have to give credit to Lacy and Leila and the bottom of the lineup for setting the table for the top of our order,” said DP coach Mike Gerken. “They do a great job of getting on base to help us produce runs late in games.

Nuno and Mia Reveles each had two hits for the Chargers.

Gerken also praised the defense.

“Jessica Reveles made one spectacular play on a short hop up the middle and the rest of the infielders played so well together,” he said. “Bullard put the ball in play a lot, but the girls did their jobs inning after inning to prevent any big rallies. Leila Chisholm and Mia Reveles made some difficult catches in the outfield and Riley Monroe caught a girl stealing second on an absolutely perfect throw.”
