The San Marcos girls softball team lost 1-0 at Ocean View in the CIF-SS Division 5 softball semifinals on Thursday.
Ocean View broke a scoreless game in the fourth inning, capitalizing on a pair of infield errors by the Royals.
Ocean View pitcher Desyree Arizmendi retired the last 10 batters in a row to win the duel with San Marcos ace Allie Fryklund.
“Captains Izabella Velasquez and Cassandra Perez showed great leadership with each singling during the game against possibly the best pitching we had seen all year,” said San Marcos coach Jeff Swann.
Fryklund struck out eight and allowed four hits in her final game as a Royal. She is headed to Arizona Christian University.
“Allie also pitched a tremendous game in her final appearance as a Royal. She controlled the plate and induced several infield popups and fly balls while striking out eight batters and walking none,” said Swann.
The Royals threatened in the first inning as Caitlyn Early and Fryklund reached base on singles with one out. But Arizmendi regrouped and struck out the next two batters to end the threat.
Arizmendi allowed five hits and struck out 11.
Channel League-champion San Marcos ends the season with a 20-5 record.
“I am extremely proud of the effort and accomplishments of this team. Their growth as individuals and their camaraderie as teammates was the key to our success on the field this season. I will truly miss the chemistry of this team, but with only Allie graduating, I am excited for the future,” said Swann.
