A no-hitter from recently graduated Allie Fryklund, a home run from freshman Caitlyn “KK” Early and an overall dominant performance by the San Marcos softball team led it to a 7-0 win over visiting Mayfield in a first-round CIF Southern-Section Division 5 playoff game on Thursday.

Fryklund struck out 13 and didn’t walk a batter. She had a perfect game until an error in the sixth inning.

Despite the one miscue, the San Marcos defense played a solid game.

“It gives me all the confidence in the world, ” Fryklund said of the fielders behind her. “They’ll always be there to back me up.”

The San Marcos offense was clicking, too.

Early went 2-4 and smacked a solo home run in the third. Gigi Gritt also went 2-4, including an RBI triple to left field in the sixth.

Fryklund helped her own cause at the plate, going 2-4 with an RBI.

Things couldn’t have gone much better for the Royals in the playoff opener.

“We feel the only team that can beat us is us,” San Marcos coach Jeff Swann said. “If we just play our game and take care of our business, there is no one that can beat us.”

San Marcos (18-4) will host Schurr in a second-round game on Saturday.
