San Marcos softball fell 5-4 at Lompoc and finished in a tie for second place in the Channel League with the Braves at 11-4.

A three-run homer by Lompoc freshman Natalie Aguilar in the bottom of third inning was the difference in the game.

San Marcos came back to within one run in the sixth inning on a eadoff double by Kamilah Morales followed by an RBI double by Bella Cruz.  One out later,  Tiana Monaghen singled home Cruz, cutting the lead to 5-4.

Lompoc’s pitcher struck out the next two batters to leave the runners stranded.

“Our first seven players each had one hit on the day but it wasn’t enough to earn a win,” said coach Jeff Swann. “Despite the loss, I liked the way we approached this game; the girls played with focus, energy, and spirit and everyone had quality at bats.  The defense was solid supporting freshman pitcher Kate Guerra.”

The Royals (14-14 overall) will learn their CIF-SS Division 4 playoff draw on Saturday.
